Vocabulary quiz Match the following words and definitions and provide any part-of-speech variations: • Imply • To bring or collect people or things into a group • Requisite • To express something in an indirect way • Attend • Ability that comes from training, experience, or practice • Gather • Necessary for a particular purpose • Skill • Closely connected with another within a professional context • Associate • To be present at (an event or meeting)/ to go regularly to (class, church etc. )
Part III: Short Conversations • 13 conversations with sometimes more than 2 people • 3 comprehension questions per conversation, 4 possible answers per question • Added graphic, ie. Data chart, pie chart • Choose the correct answer • Conversations: 3 - or 4 -part exchanges, questions and responses, range of grammar (scenarios: places of work, business, leisure…) • In your test book, 3 questions with 4 choices each are written out, per conversation • Speed: 8 -second pause between questions (24 seconds between conversations)
Strategies 1. Preview the next 3 questions as well as the answer choices. 24 seconds between conversations is a lot of time. 2. Keep your eyes on the corresponding set of three questions and answer choices. Evaluate as you are listening. 3. Distractors are sometimes mentioned in the conversations, but are not answers to the question. Don’t choose an answer simply because you heard it in the conversation. 4. Use the process of elimination if you have to guess, but make sure you guess. Never leave any answers blank.
