Today’s Scripture: Isaiah 2: 2 -5 Morning Message: “What is Baptism? ”

Grace is God's personal attitude toward us of spontaneous, uncaused favor. Grace is God's sustaining power that gives us life. Grace is God's nurturing influence that moves us to fulfill our potential to grow up to be like Jesus.

Water for washing. One way of baptizing is pouring. This shows God reaching out to you to wash your life in forgiveness to open the way for the ongoing gift of the Holy Spirit. Peter said, “Turn back to God! Be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, so that your sins will be forgiven. Then you will be given the Holy Spirit. This promise is for you and your children. ” Acts 2: 38 CEV

Rain nurtures growth. One way of baptizing is sprinkling. This shows God reaching out to you to nourish you and help you grow like a child in God’s family. Some of us are Jews, and others are Gentiles. Some of us are slaves, and others are free. But God’s Spirit baptized each of us and made us part of Christ’s body. Now we each drink from that same Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12: 13 CEV

Immersion. This shows God reaching out to give you the experience of dying with Jesus so you can rise with Jesus. You die to something old so you can live to something new. Don’t you know that all who share in Christ Jesus by being baptized also share in his death? When we were baptized, we died and were buried with Christ. We were baptized, so that we would live a new life, as Christ was raised to life by the glory of God the Father. Romans 6: 3, 4 CEV

We are born through water in the womb. Baptism shows God delivering you into new birth, giving you a new start with new life. I tell you for certain that before you can get into God’s kingdom, you must be born not only by water, but by the Spirit. Humans give life to their children. Yet only God’s Spirit can change you into a child of God. John 3: 5, 6 CEV

When you are born fresh and new you are named with God’s name to live as God’s person walking with Jesus. Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do every thing I have told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the age. Matthew 28: 19 -20 CEV

Baptism is a turning point. It is your decision to turn to God. Baptism is more than just washing your body. It means turning to God with a clear conscience, because Jesus Christ was raised from death 1 Peter 3: 21 CEV.

Ø God washes your life in forgiveness. Ø God helps you grow like a child in God’s family. Ø You die with Jesus so you can rise with Jesus. Ø God delivers you into new birth Ø God names you with God’s name to live as God’s person
