Today’s Scripture: Ephesians 3: 1 -12 Morning Message: “I’ll Do It God’s Way”

Luke 4: 1 -13 – “I’ll Do It God’s Way” Luke 4: 1 -4 - I’ll Learn from God When Jesus returned from the Jordan River, the power of the Holy Spirit was with him, and the Spirit led him into the desert. 2 For forty days Jesus was tested by the devil, and during that time he went without eating. When it was all over, he was hungry. 3 The devil said to Jesus, “If you are God’s Son, tell this stone to turn into bread. ” 4 Jesus answered, “The Scriptures say, ‘No one can live only on food. ’” CEV

Deuteronomy 8: 3 Don't forget how the LORD your God has led you through the desert for the past forty years. He wanted to find out if you were truly willing to obey him and depend on him, so he made you go hungry. Then he gave you manna, a kind of food that you and your ancestors had never even heard about. The LORD was teaching you that people need more than food to live they need every word that the LORD has spoken. CEV

Belonging to Jesus isn’t about having every need or desire fulfilled. It’s about listening to God’s teaching.

Luke 4: 1 -13 – “I’ll Do It God’s Way” Luke 4: 5 -8 - I’ll Follow God Then the devil led Jesus up to a high place and quickly showed him all the nations on earth. 6 The devil said, “I will give all this power and glory to you. It has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 Just worship me, and you can have it all. ” 8 Jesus answered, “The Scriptures say: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve only him!’” CEV 5

Deuteronomy 6: 13 Worship and obey the LORD your God with fear and trembling, and promise that you will be loyal to him. CEV

Belonging to Jesus isn’t about having power to rule over others. It’s about serving God without being afraid of others.

Luke 4: 1 -13 – “I’ll Do It God’s Way” Luke 4: 9 – 13 - I’ll Trust in God Finally, the devil took Jesus to Jerusalem and had him stand on top of the temple. The devil said, “If you are God’s Son, jump off. 10 -11 The Scriptures say: ‘God will tell his angels to take care of you. They will catch you in their arms, and you will not hurt your feet on the stones. ’” 12 Jesus answered, “The Scriptures also say, ‘Don’t try to test the Lord your God!’” 13 After the devil had finished testing Jesus in every way possible, he left him for a while. CEV 9

Deuteronomy 6: 15 b, 16 The LORD your God is with you, so don’t try to make him prove that he can help you, as you did at Massah. Always obey the teachings that the LORD has given you and live in a way that pleases him. At Massah the Israelites quarreled and tested the LORD saying, “Is the LORD among us or not”? Exodus 17: 1 -7

Belonging to Jesus isn’t about being protected from trouble. It’s about living for God in the middle of trouble.

Ø Belonging to God isn’t about having every need or desire fulfilled. It’s about listening to God’s teaching. Ø It’s not about having power to rule over others. It’s about having courage to serve God without being afraid of others. Ø It’s not about forcing other people to do things our way. It’s about faithfully doing things God’s way. Ø It’s not about being protected from hardship. It’s about living for God’s in the middle of hardship.
