Today • 900, 000 PCs purchased every month in UK • 3, 000 PCs sold by Dell per month worldwide • There are 1. 5 billion PCs in use today, rising to 2 billion by 2014 * • Every PC ends up on or under a desk, usually sitting in a tangle of cables, looking unattractive and creating trip hazards, at real risk of damage/theft, making noise, and heating the local environment • Laptops or ‘all in one’ PCs are sometimes chosen to remedy the situation, but they’re expensive, easy to steal, cramped, easily breakable and are difficult to upgrade. The battery life is limited when not connected to a power source. • Typical air conditioned office energy use breaks down as: lighting 20 -25%, IT/small power 25 -40% and HVAC 40 -50%. *Data Monitor "There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home. “ Ken Olsen, founder of Digital Equipment, in 1977 “I think there is a world market for maybe 5 computers” Thomas J Watson, President of IBM, in 1943

CRC Synopsis UK Government CRC (Carbon Reduction Commitment) Energy Efficiency Scheme · · · Deadline for registration was 30 th September 2010. Any organisation that has purchased electricity in 30 minute meter units is required to register. There is a fine of £ 5000 for not registering, with an additional £ 500 per day after the deadline Company Directors can face imprisonment up to 2 years for non compliance. 6, 000 companies are expected to have registered initially with 20, 000 subsequently. After registration, organisations will need to appoint an accredited energy consultancy to conduct an energy use audit. There is anticipated to be a small number of accredited consultancies and they will use ‘on line’ tools to enable rapid audit. · Once the audit has been completed, strategies and methods for reducing energy use will need to be identified and implemented. This scheme is a major part of UK Gov. commitment to EC and Kyoto agreements to reduce CO 2 emissions by 32% in 2020. Registered organisations will need to buy allowances to prescribed levels governed by their energy use. ‘Good’ performance in the published performance league tables will result in financial benefits, ‘poor’ performance will be penalised.

We can operate any PC at 20 metres A unique remote control for a PC. A slim unit which is placed in or under the desk’s worksurface and duplicates the key controls of the PC, allowing the computer to be hidden away out of sight, inside the desk or up to 20 m away On/off Headphone & mic Operating lights Internal Desk Layout USB ports Optical drive The Remote Control works with regular PCs (HP, Dell, etc. ) and doesn’t invalidate the manufacturer’s warranty, only requiring a PCI card to be inserted in the PC. (when PC not remotely placed) The Remote Control is simple plug and play technology, PC and Remote Control are connected by CAT 6 cables (via the PCI card) – no software needs to be installed and it doesn’t affect the running of the PC. our remote-control PC sound/cooling system

FG Technology incorporates our patented technology to ensure an attractive, clutter- free, ergonomic, safe, secure and energy saving workstation. With FG Technology you get; • Health and Safety – PC hardware and cabling is all concealed ensuring no hazard to, or interference by, users. • Security – PC hardware is out of sight and away from the user either concealed within the furniture or remotely located up to 20 metres away. This enables restricted access, if required, to both hardware and data by specification of user controls at the desk. • Space – removing the PC from the immediate user space allows for more workstations within the available space by use of smaller desk footprint. • Energy use reduction – in 2 ways; Firstly, FG technology allows the PC to be switched off completely when the user is not working at the PC. It is not left in standby for long periods of time still drawing up to 70% of the energy used when the PC is actually in use. Being fully switched off by our unique ‘kill switch’ incorporated in the remote control means NO energy is being used. On return to PC use, pressing the kill switch enables the PC to be activated, correctly and safely, to continue working. Secondly, locating the PC up to 20 metres away from the workstation removes the need to extract up to 500 watts of heat produced by PCs from the air conditioned environment of the office. Each PC can naturally be ventilated away from the air-conditioned office space. This can be into a separate space, floor void or externally. • Potential to reduce energy use by up to 2000 kwh per PC per year. . FG Technology allows for retaining existing PCs or installation of any new PC manufacturers’ hardware and is fully upgradeable whilst maintaining all manufacturers’ on-site warranties.

Power Savings • The average PC consumes between 200 w and 500 w of power per hour. • Most of this is turned into heat, so a room with 15 PCs turned-on is creating up to 7. 5 kwh of heat. In an environment with air-conditioning, this 7. 5 kwh of heat must be extracted. • By remote placement of the PCs, and venting this heat, there is no need to extract this via air-conditioning. • During normal office hours use, this equates to a saving of up to 1, 200 kwh per PC, per year. Savings of up to £ 250 per PC, per year can be achieved. • Where the power-button on the Remote Control is used to power-down a PC when not in use, Symantec performed independent studies to determine the further power saving effect. Their report follows: -

Symantec Study Symantec performed a series of controlled tests to measure the energy usage

Symantec Study Symantec performed a series of controlled tests to measure the energy usage of a PC when unattended. The test involved two PCs being run simultaneously. • PC (1) remained on standby in out of working hours • PC (2) was fitted with our remote control and with the use of its Safe shutdown button, turned off the PC outside working hours. The following figures illustrate the per annum, per PC electricity savings when the PC is shutdown using the remote control as opposed to being left on standby. Saving per PC, p. a. PC in use for 9 hours per day PC in use for 8 hours per day PC in use for 7 hours per day PC in use for 6 hours per day 1080 kwh saved 1152 kwh saved 1224 kwh saved 1296 kwh saved Carbon Saving : 1862 kwh units = 1 tonne of carbon Therefore, two PCs left on standby during out of work hours produce in excess of one tonne of carbon per year.

Green Benefits • Locate the PC up to 20 metres away in a nearby cupboard or room. All the heat generated by the PCs is then separately vented and doesn’t need to be removed by expensive air conditioning. • Encourages power-saving by making it substantially easier to shut-down the PC. • Typically creates 10% - 15% more usable space than the usual desk with PC positioned underneath, meaning that many more people can be fitted into the same space. • Our remote-control requires no extra electricity as it draws all its power from the PC, thereby supplying all its benefits at no environmental cost. “We chose to install FG Technology for the following reasons: To remove the PC from view; to create greater space at the workstation; to enable easy ‘full’ shutdown of the PC at the end of the working day and to demonstrate our understanding and appreciation of both innovation and Corporate Social Responsibility. We calculated that we would see ROI at 13 months on our electricity tariff in 2007. We also had in mind our carbon footprint which we were required to reduce to meet our compliance targets for various tenders we were included on and responding to. As part of our ‘Planet Positive’ accreditation, we had to demonstrate REAL carbon reductions under an audit of our company and facility”.

Ford Case Study As an example of the electricity savings available through clever IT

Ford Case Study As an example of the electricity savings available through clever IT management, please see the Ford case study below noting the considerable ROI. We can achieve this for our clients PLUS an additional 100% via the air conditioning reduction, therefore DOUBLING the savings. Ford estimates that it will save $1. 2 million and reduce its carbon footprint by 16, 000 to 25, 000 metric tons annually-just by shutting off computers when they aren't in use. The secret to getting employees to shut down is a program called PC Power Management that centrally controls laptops and desktops to power down overnight and on weekends. At the same time, the program makes sure that computers connected to the Ford Intranet are able to receive software deliveries during off hours, decreasing downtime during working hours due to excess software loads. Simple, right? It's not that Ford's idea is so revolutionary, plenty of studies have shown that shutting down computers saves big bucks. In fact, research from software company 1 E has demonstrated that over $2. 8 billion in PC power is wasted every year in the U. S. And both AT&T and Verizon have used 1 E's software in the past to save energy but we appreciate that Ford is publicizing its money and energy-saving efforts. Perhaps the auto company will inspire other corporations to follow suit. After all, going green doesn't get much easier than pressing the "off" button on the computer. Fast Company, 23 rd March 2010
