Introduction Public Service Announcement (PSA) Audience Survey & Research Content Development Product Design & Development
Our “Strategy” • Create & set up an audience survey over the internet. • Research NASA’s present communication strategy to refine and improve it. • Design an approach to communicate information about NASA’s Mars & Space Exploration programs to the public by linking it to everyday life.
Content Development • PSA – 2 main themes: - Business opportunities in space & on MARS. - Technology spin-offs • Emphasis on a more humanized approach • Issues addressed include investment opportunities, job market in space, sustainability issues on earth etc.
Product Design and Development • Design – extensive exercise in animation development and video editing. • Consulting with Georgia Tech media people on effective communication strategies.
Policy Research & Audience Survey • • Policy: Choice of Topics Policy: Range of Discussion Mars: Social & Tech Concerns Sustainability Survey Web Site Survey Data Companies and Annual Revenues Civilian Aerospace Exports
Policy: Choice of Topics • The Dichotomy: technical & social • A Quick History - marginal social concern & technical marginalization
Policy: Range of Discussion • NASA’s Current Communications Policy • Search Parameters: “NASA” & “Mars” (w/ use of Vantage. Point Software & GA Tech’s BUSI – Business Index database) -- Example: “Scientists” -- Associated Keywords: “mars probes” + “outer space”+ “life on other planets”
Mars: Social & Tech Concerns • Better Businesses: Expanded Markets / Expanded Services • Technological Spin-offs • Confronting Sustainability
Sustainability • Food Production • Water Purification • Clean Energy § Air Quality § Waste Management
Survey Web Site • Go to: www. advancedsurvey. com & Enter Survey # 5224
Survey Data • Questioning for Feedback from Teens / Young Adults • Questions cover: Age, Industry, Attitude, Interests, Logic/Reason on Mars • Free Form Responses • Likert Scale Responses
