TM Seed Properties Materials: 1/4 liter container of seeds Procedure: Sort the seeds by kind. Living things are called organisms. Claim: Seeds are living plants in a resting or dormant stage. What do you think would happen if we just watered the seeds instead of planting them in the soil? Do you think they would grow? How could we find out? TM Setting Up the Minisprouters a. b. c. d. e. f. Get a filter paper for your group and place it in the 1/4 L container. Put 6 of each type of seed (bean, corn, sunflower, pea) on the filter paper. I will come around and pour enough weak bleach water to fill 1/4 of your container. Cover the minisprouter. Glue the remaining seed of each type onto the place mat with white glue. TM Draining the Minisprouter Drain your sprouters into the sink or into another container. There should be no water left in the minisprouter. Push the edge of the filter paper down and snap the lid back on tightly. Structures of Life, 1. 2: The Sprouting Seed Step 9 Slide 7

Look for patterns in the growth of different kinds of seeds. Answer the focus question in your notebook. Write a narrative that describes the changes your seeds went through over the 6 days.
