TM Mealworm Molting Observe your mealworms. Insects and Plants, 1. 2: Larva, Pupa, Adult Step 6 Slide 5
TM Mealworm Molting The mealworm will go through different stages during its life. The mealworm is in the larval stage. When the larva needs to grow, it first sheds (molts) its outer skin (exoskeleton). This is called molting. The old skin, also called a molt, is left behind. TM Pupae Observe your mealworms. Insects and Plants, 1. 2: Larva, Pupa, Adult Step 10 Slide 7
TM Pupae The mealworm has entered a new stage in its life cycle, called a pupa. It is alive, but it does not eat or drink. Insects and Plants, 1. 2: Larva, Pupa, Adult Step 10 Slide 8
TM Adults The beetle is in the adult stage of the mealworm. It is known as a darkling beetle. What changes do you think will happen next? Insects and Plants, 1. 2: Larva, Pupa, Adult Step 12 Slide 9
TM Beetle Structures Place your beetles on a paper plate or in a cup. Observe the beetle structures and behaviors. Are they the same as or different from the mealworm's? Structures Behaviors Adult Beetle Mealworm Insects and Plants, 1. 2: Larva, Pupa, Adult Step 15 Slide 10
