Process mapping Why?
Process mapping What? Process Mapping is a tool used to develop a ‘map’ of a process within a system and can be used to identify areas for improvement.
Process mapping How? Box: shows the activities of the process. Diamond: represents the stage in the process where a question is asked or a decision is required. Oval: shows the start of a process and the inputs required. Also used to mark the end of the process with the results or outputs. Arrows: show the direction or flow of the process.
Process mapping How? Questions to ask yourself and your team: : ● What is the start and the end of the process you are mapping? ● Do we have everyone involved in the process taking part? ● How much detail will you include? ● Can we map this process in one session, or should we chunk it? ● Are there bottlenecks in the process? ● Are there parts of the process which cause unnecessary delays? ● Do we know enough about this part of the process or are there other stakeholders to involve?
