Email Distractions Do you have dozens or even hundreds of messages cluttering your inbox? If so, then take a deep, calming breath. Next, go through each message while asking yourself four simple questions: 1 Delete? If a message does not require any response from you and includes no information that you’ll ever need, then send it to the trash. 2 Respond now? If you can respond to an email within two minutes, then do it immediately. This “two-minute rule” can help you shrink your inbox even more. Re 3 Respond later? Some emails call for more than a two-minute follow-up task. Send these messages to an action folder or highlight them so that they’re easy to see. 4 Save? Some messages require no response and still include information that might be useful to you in the future. Move these messages out of your inbox and into an archive, reference, or “all mail” folder. You can search this folder at any time with keywords. HOME

Notification Distractions One simple strategy is to turn off notifications in your device settings. Then designate specific times to check social media and email instead of getting interrupted throughout the day. Another option is to look for a “do not disturb” setting that disables notifications for a scheduled number of hours each day. There’s a reason for unplugging from notifications: research indicates that people who are interrupted during a task try to make up for the lost productivity by working faster. And that, in turn, raises their stress level. Re After reducing or turning off notifications, savor the silence and enjoy the reduction in your stress level. Also observe how much more you get done with extra space for concentration. HOME
