Tithes and Lies

Tithing • tithes: money paid to a church • Tithes are considered an offering

Tithing • tithes: money paid to a church • Tithes are considered an offering to God and a prayer to accomplish His will on Earth • Catholics are not forced to pay tithes – give what you can! • Some societies/religions have mandatory tithes (e. g. Christian Germans, Orthodox Jews and Mormons at 10% of income) Would you be willing to give one -tenth of what you make to the Church? Should such giving be mandatory? The practice of paying indulgences sparked the Protestant Reformation of the 1500 s.

Two Truths and a Lie • Form a group of four • Label yourselves A, B, C and D • Come up with three statements about yourselves, two true and one false • Try to see if you can guess which is false • When finished, form a new group with others to form ABCD quartets • Extra As and Bs can fill in as Es in a pinch if numbers don’t work out! Riding an elephant, playing in a charity tennis match or working as a scorpion salesman: which have I never done?
