Mise-en-scene In the scene, it shows across the loss of hope for Jack and Rose, with Jack trying his best to keep the hopes high for Rose, as they float across the sea on the rubble from the ship. The impact of the mise-en-scene is the minimal use of camera composition, direction of lighting and the direction of acting the actors go for. For example, the camera mostly focus on extreme close-ups on the faces of Jack and Rose, which expresses to the audience how close they are in a tight life or death situation. This is also expressed through the acting and voice direction, with speech being slow and pauses from exchanges being long, Rose has a soft, quiet and slow speech pattern, whereas Jack, still in action of nearing death, stays strong and hopeful with confidence in his voice. All this put together really brings across the tone and aesthetic of the scene. Sound The scene contains diegetic sound only. The contents of the sound is the voice lines of the characters, the sounds of the sea and people in the background shouting for help. • The scene in question does not include much, but what is included helps the impact of the scene. Editing/Camerawork Editing with the camerawork goes for simple but impactful. The use of shots to be extreme close-ups shows the impact of the aftermath and connection between the two. The shots don’t show much and only show their faces, but the editing of the shots is impactful enough for the closing curtain. The editing the shots make the scene linear, despite the cut back and fourth of shots. The scene does not cut back from place to place, the only focus point is Jack and Rose.

> Fresh Rating Review; Positive – “The movie is a ride, and not without the odd moment of corniness. But it's also about freedom and flight, bondage and stagnation. And most fittingly, as a memorial itself, it's about memory and the act of remembering. ” - Quentin Curtis > Fresh Rating Review: Negative – “See Titanic, then, for its success as an outrageous visual stunt -- a marvel of cinematic (and computer) sleight-of-hand. But don't go with any illusions that this soap opera on water is anything but a cartoon melodrama with fairy-tale leads. ” - David Baron Titanic was placed in many award categories and presentations, from 1997 to 2005. The film was won a total of 88 different awards, ranging from best acting, best soundtrack and best director. Negative thoughts and controversial opinions did occur years later on in regards to the film. The general idea of how a film should not be made based on a real life tragedy, as it could be seen as insulting towards the individuals who were caught in the event. Another negative/controversial opinion on the matter is that the film mixes fact with fiction, mixing up events of real people on a real ship with characters made up by the film director, and the portrayal with some characters, fictitious or not, gives the film an odd flow with character development and interactions. Controversies continued on when years later, critics began to be more harsh on the film, with some examples of this being, lowing the rating overtime, not allowing the film on polls and criticising the original box office worth.
