Time Capsule Activity Welcome to history class. In honor of your first day, we will leave make a time capsule to be opened on the last day you are in class with me. The paper you add to the time capsule, will be a primary source that reminds you what you thought and felt about this first day back at school.

Artifact Activity Imagine you were born in the year 2556. Humans have had to flee the planet after an alien invasion. Humans left so suddenly, that few survivors made it on the spaceships. Those who fled were also only able to bring the clothes on their backs. Humans now know VERY little about what it was like to live on Earth. Recently, your spaceship has received word that the aliens have left Earth. It is no longer habitable, but your leaders hope to find artifacts that will help you re-build a more advanced society elsewhere. They also hope to just learn more about their ancestors. Your spaceship is visiting Durham, and when you arrive, you find some confusing artifacts.

(texture, color, size, weight, printing, etc. ) 3. What might it have been used for? 4. Who might have used it? 5. What can this artifact tell us about humans living in the early 21 st century?
