Morning Meeting • We will watch the Kincaid Morning News Show live together. • This week is No Place for Hate week at Kincaid! Let’s read a book together about kindness.
Math Teaching Point: I can use place value strategies to add to 100. • Number Talk • Word Problem of the Day • I can use a hundred chart to add. • Mini-lesson: Today we will use arrows to add and subtract tens and ones on a hundred chart. We will focus on the forward and down arrows for addition. We will decompose to add tens and ones separately. • Task: Solve the problems on the Halloween math handout using the blank hundred charts on the back.
Reading • Good readers use text features to locate information in nonfiction texts. • Mini-Lesson: Let’s review features of nonfiction texts by watching a Brain Pop Jr. video about nonfiction texts. We will also review the features on our anchor chart together. • Task: We will work together to make a mini-book reviewing all the text features. Teaching Point: I can locate and describe features of nonfiction texts.

Writing Teaching Point: I can write to inform. • Good writers write to inform. • Informational writing involves writing real facts and becoming experts on a topic. • Mini-Lesson: We will review the importance of beginning our stories in a way that makes our readers interested in our topic. We will also talk about how to end our paragraphs to create closure. • Task: Let’s write a bold beginning and an excellent ending to our paragraph about vampire bats.
Phonics Teaching Point: I can read and spell words with long vowel teams. Vowels include a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y. Vowel sounds can be short or long. Long vowel sounds say their name. Some words with a long vowel sound end in a silent e. Other long vowel sounds are formed by vowel teams. This week we will look at spelling patterns for the long “i” sound. Let’s practice spelling words with “igh”.
