Math Teaching Point: I can use place value strategies to subtract within 100. • Number Talk • Word Problem of the Day • I can decompose to subtract and regroup when I need to. • Mini-lesson: We will continue to work on regrouping when subtracting using our base ten block manipulatives. Let’s practice some subtraction problems involving regrouping using our blocks and white boards. • Task: Play spin-it, write-it, subtract-it and solve the subtraction problems with your blocks.
Reading • Good readers identify points made by an author in texts and find supporting reasons that the author gives as well. • Mini-Lesson: Today, we will read an author’s point and see if we can come up with our own reasons to support it. • Task: Choose one of the author’s points on the screen and complete the handout on your own to write two possible supporting reasons for that point. Teaching Point: I can identify the author’s points and reasons in a text.

Writing Teaching Point: I can write to inform. • Good writers write to inform. • Informational writing involves writing real facts and becoming experts on a topic. • Mini-Lesson: Now that you have completed the graphic organizer, read through your paragraph carefully and check for capitalization and punctuation mistakes. • Task: When you are ready, use the editing checklist to make corrections.
Grammar Teaching Point: I can use an apostrophe correctly in a contraction. • Mentor sentence from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie: You’ll have to fix up a little box for him with a blanket and a pillow. • Mini-Lesson: We will review what we have learned about contractions. Remember, contractions are used to write words in a shorter way. Put an apostrophe where you remove letters. • Task: Finish working on scoot task cards.

Science Teaching Point: I can describe attributes of stars. • Task: Let’s see if we remember what we have learned this week about the sun and other stars. Look at the task cards on the screen and listen as Mrs. Hamel reads the sentences out loud. Mark on your handout if you think the sentence is True or False. Let’s check it together!
