Today we will read a version of the story from China called, Lon Po Po. Writing Teaching Point: I can write a friendly letter. • Good writers write many types of writing styles. • We can write a friendly letter to share our opinion. • Mini-Lesson: Today we will take some time to read over our letters and use the checklist to make corrections. • Task: When you are ready, you can begin working on the final copy of your letter. Use your best handwriting, capitalization, and punctuation! You may illustrate your book on the last page.

Phonics Vowels include a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y. Vowel sounds can be short or long. Long vowel sounds say their name. Some words with a long vowel sound end in a silent e. Other long vowel sounds are formed by vowel teams. Sometimes vowel teams make new sounds, called diphthongs. We can also put an “r” with a vowel to make a new sound. Let’s review all the Bossy R spelling patterns we’ve learned. Teaching Point: I can read and spell words with bossy r sounds.
