Math Teaching Point: I can use strategies to add and subtract. • Word Problem of the Day • I can use strategies to add two-digit numbers. • Mini-lesson: Today we will review the strategies we learned in quarter 2 for adding two-digit numbers. Let’s practice some addition together on our dry erase boards. • Task: Play the spinner game with a partner or group.
Reading • Good readers read a variety of genres. • Mini-Lesson: In quarter 3, we will read more fiction books. We will review the various types of genres that we have discussed this year and we will focus specifically on traditional literature and fantasy as we begin our unit on fables and fairy tales. Today we will learn about the characteristics of a fable. • Task: Glue the fables cheat sheet in your reading journal. Teaching Point: I can describe characteristics of a fable.

Writing Teaching Point: I can write to support my opinion. • Good writers write to support their opinion about a topic. • When we write to support our opinion, we always include reasons and examples. • Mini-Lesson: Today, we will begin our unit on opinion writing. Before we jump in, let’s see what you already know. • Task: Complete the on-demand writing prompt to write your opinion on a topic you feel strongly about. (Send back to school)
Phonics Vowels include a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y. Vowel sounds can be short or long. Long vowel sounds say their name. Some words with a long vowel sound end in a silent e. Other long vowel sounds are formed by vowel teams. Sometimes vowel teams make new sounds, called diphthongs. Let’s sort some words together to discover some new diphthong spelling patterns. Teaching Point: I can read and spell words with long vowel teams.
