Math Teaching Point: I can use measurement to solve word problems. • Number Talk • Word Problem of the Day • I can solve word problems using measurement and my addition and subtraction strategies. • Mini-lesson: Today we will learn how to solve word problems involving measurement. We will focus on comparing word problems which include questions like, “How much taller…”, “How much shorter…”, and so on. We use subtraction to solve comparing problems. • Task: Complete the measurement word problem task cards for more practice.
Reading Teaching Point: I can find meaning in words and phrases in poems. • Good readers looks for meaning in poems by paying attention to the words and phrases. • Mini-Lesson: Today, we will learn about words and phrases that repeat in poems. Authors do that to create rhythm and to draw attention to important ideas. Let’s read, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bell and name the repeated words and phrases. • Task: Read, “What I Wish” and note the repeated phrase.
Independent Work Time • This week, Mrs. Hamel and Mrs. . White will be completing reading assessments with individual students. Your teachers will let you know on the day if you will need to stay for a short meeting. • On the days that you do not meet with a teacher, you will work independently. • Read books from your house, your KC bag, or online through Epic. • Complete the “Pile of Possessive Nouns” snowball craft. Please send back to school when it is complete.

Writing Teaching Point: I can write to explain how to do something. • Good writers write to inform. • One type of informational writing is how-to paragraphs. • Mini-Lesson: Today you will begin a new how-to informational paragraph and you will think of another task at which you are an expert. • Task: When you have your idea, complete the graphic organizer to give your steps. Don’t forget to include enough information to answer your readers’ questions!
Phonics Vowels include a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y. Vowel sounds can be short or long. Long vowel sounds say their name. Some words with a long vowel sound end in a silent e. Other long vowel sounds are formed by vowel teams. Some vowel teams make a new sound. Today, we will learn about the ou and ow spelling patterns in words like house and crowd. Let’s read a passage together and see what words we can find with the ou and ow spelling patterns. Teaching Point: I can read and spell words with long vowel teams and diphthongs.
