Thursday 11 th February WALT: Write and improve a news report

You have nearly finished writing your news report! Today you are going to add the final element to complete your news report which is the re-orientation.

Your re-orientation is going to retell the events you have written about in your report. It also needs to bring us up to date by telling us what is happening now. So the tense will change from past tense to present tense.

Now use your planning sheet to help you write your re-orientation. Your re-orientation should include: Retelling of events Tell us what is happening now Change from past tense to present tense.

Here is an example of a re-orientation bringing us up to date on what is happening now: Jim’s distraught parents visit his grave every day. They are using their unfortunate circumstance to make other families aware and prevent the same experience from happening to them.

Once you have written your re-orientation, read all your work through. Check if there any more areas that you can improve in your writing. Then use the next slide to check you have included all the features in your writing, if you haven’t go back and add it in.

Use this as your checklist. • A catchy headline • Orientation – includes the 5 W’s. Who? What? Why? Where? When? • Details of events • Quotes • Formal tone • Report phrases e. g. It was reported today that… • Adverbials of time • Relative clauses • Parenthesis • Re-orientation (change to present tense)

Read through your work. Don’t forget to upload your work from today on Dojo! Tomorrow you will be publishing your news report!
