NIPFP (1985) - Other than incomes generated through illegal activities like smuggling, black market, extortion money, etc, there are unaccounted incomes generated like factor incomes through underreporting of output/sales in production of goods and services, capital receipts. Estimate of UNNACCOUNTED WEALTH was around 50% of then GNP in 1988. (Gupta, 1992) Most Fake currency infused in system in form Rs 500, 1000 notes, funding terror, drugs, etc (India Statistical Institute) Actions � Black Money Act passed - ◦ Nab undisclosed foreign assets, incomes ◦ Around Rs 16000 crore worth disclosed. ◦ Investigation-HSBC, Panama papers ongoing � Demonetization – ◦ Around Rs 5400 crore recovered in 1100 ITraids during Demonetization. � Voluntary Disclosure 2016– Rs 65250 crore declared (Oct 2016). MGNREGA REFORMS … Three years of Modi Government RESOLVING AGRI-DISTRESS � Owing to the drought years-policy stand has been a crucial step for assuaging its effects. � More impetus on works – Drought proofing, Flood control, Irrigation, etc. � 8 -states recognized drought-affected, where 50 days of extra work granted under MGNREGA and Rs 24000 crore specifically allocated to these states. (8 -states include UP, Uttarakhand, MP, Rajasthan, Kerala, Karnataka, AP and Tamil Nadu). � 51% increase in Total Expenditure on states home to 58% of Rural poor in India, between 2012 -13 to 2016 -17.
