Childhood Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio. He had little schooling and was self taught. When he was thirteen he became a news editor and by sixteen he was a telegrapher.
Early Inventions His first major invention was the tin-foil phonograph. The phonograph played back a recorded song or poem. Around this time he met his first wife Mary and had three kids.
The Electric Light The electric light took a year and a half to create and the light lasted thirteen hours. It was first introduced at the Melno Park factory. But during all this success Mary Edison died of natural causes.
Later Inventions Left with three children, he meets Mina Miller and falls in love. They move to West Orange, New Jersey where he lives for the rest of his life. He creates a phonograph which can project motion pictures and is a huge success.
Old Age Thomas Edison never retired from inventing until the last two years of his life. In 1928 the Medal of Honor was rewarded to him. Thomas Edison died on October 18, 1931 at 82 years old.
