God’s Word Concerning Healing Lesson 3
Purpose of this lesson To get our thinking and our words to be in agreement with God’s Word in any area of need that we have The subject of HEALING will be used as an example
Questions this lesson will seek to answer: • Is it God’s will to heal? Maybe my healing is not God’s will. How can we know? • Does God ever withhold healing (assuming faith is present to be healed)? • Does God put sickness on us to teach us spiritual lessons? • Can we expect to be healed every time we seek God for it?
Psalm 103 God’s Benefits 1. Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3. Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; 4. Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; 5. Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
In one verse (Psalm 103: 3), in one breath, God links forgiveness and healing In our study, the same rules that apply to forgiveness should be applied to healing (what’s true for one should be true for the other) The two are similar: • • Healing is the restoration of the physical body to a healthy state Forgiveness is the restoration of the spirit to a healthy state We can see the connection of the forgiveness and healing in Jesus’ healing of the man with the palsy – MARK 2: 1 -12
Finding God’s Will God’s Word is God’s Will “FAITH” must have a scriptural base in order to operate • What scriptures are you standing on? • Our words should be in agreement with God’s Words Review of scriptures that document the Biblical view concerning “HEALING”
Exodus 15 26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. (JEHOVAH-ROPHI) Exodus 23 25 And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.
Deuteronomy 7 14 Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle. 15 And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee. Psalm 91 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. Psalm 107 20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
Proverbs 4 20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. “Health” comes from a Hebrew word meaning “medicine” – God’s Word is medicine
Isaiah 53 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs (sicknesses), and carried our sorrows (pains): yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Matthew 8 16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: 17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses
Matthew 4 23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. 24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
Luke 9 1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. 2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. 11 And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. (also see Luke 10: 1 -9) Luke 6 19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.

James 5 13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. 14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
3 John 1 2 Beloved, I wish (pray) above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health (to be sound, to be well), even as thy soul prospereth. God’s Will is for us to be in health and healed from all sickness Health/Healing is a BLESSING Sickness/Disease is a CURSE
Paul’s Thorn in the Flesh Meaning A persistent difficulty or annoyance. Origin From the Bible, Corinthians 12: 7. “And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. ” Numbers 33 55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell. Thorn in the Flesh = Satan’s attack on Paul’s ministry
Final Comments • God’s Words tells us it is His Will to heal • Remember the connection between FORGIVENESS and HEALING • Answer these questions first forgiveness, then apply them to healing: Does God ever withhold forgiveness (healing) when we sincerely ask for it? Does God cause us to sin (be sick) to teach us a spiritual lesson? Can we expect to be forgiven (healed) every time we ask?
