They are used to show your child's progress and are far more formal than Key Stage 1, hence they seem much more stressful! The idea of the SATs is to show what pupils have learnt and retained since Year 2.

 What do the levels mean? It is expected that the majority of 11

What do the levels mean? It is expected that the majority of 11 year old children will achieve Level 4 by the end of Year 6. However, for some children achieving Level 3 is a real success for that particular individual. A child achieving Level 5 is above average. As an indicator, a child who passes GCSE at grade C has achieved level seven.

 How will the results be reported? Year 6 SATs tests are sent away

How will the results be reported? Year 6 SATs tests are sent away for marking and results are sent home when they arrive back in school. You will receive a letter which states the official SATs test level and a teacher assessment. Both carry equal weighting. The sheet will also detail how your child fairs in comparison to the national and the school averages.
