FRQS Free Response Questions
FRQ stands for Free Response Question WHAT IS A FRQ? This is the type of “essay” you will do for AP Human Geography FRQs are unlike any other “essay” you have done before. There is NO fluff There are only answers to questions in written form
WHY MUST YOU DO FRQS? 1. There needs to be another way to show what you know other than multiple choice questions… 2. You must be able to clearly articulate the correct information in written form in order to be considered ‘college level’. 3. If you want to pass the AP exam (which you do), you must do well on the FRQ portion of the exam.
WHAT WILL THE FRQS BE LIKE? There will be three FRQs You will get 75 minutes to complete all three This breaks down to 25 minutes for each one Each will be on a different topic covered throughout the year You will write your responses in PEN in a written response booklet given to you on the day of the exam Each one will have 7 parts, A-G Each part is worth one point You answer ALL parts in the order they are asked.

HOW DO I WRITE A FRQ? 1. In pen 2. Legibly 3. In complete sentences 4. Following the format in which the question is asked 5. With as much information you know about the topic
FRQs are scored using a specific individualized rubric created by College. Board. AP teachers from all over the country meet after exams and score the FRQs. Each FRQ is read by three different scorers and a median score is taken. HOW ARE FRQS SCORED? Every FRQ is worth 7 points
HOW WILL THE FRQ SCORES TRANSLA TE? 7/7 = 100% 6/7 = 90% 5/7 = 80% 4/7 = 70% 3/7 = 60% 2/7 = 50% 1/7 = 40% 0/7, but attempted an on-topic answer = 20% 0/7 with no attempted on-topic answer = 0%
