Thermometers on the Inner Triplets busbar lines rev

Thermometers on the Inner Triplets bus-bar lines (rev. 1) M. Sisti (TE-CRG) CM meeting (Q 1, Q 2 & Q 3 cold masses US-CERN) INDICO # 970332 CERN, 29 Oct 2020

Table of contents Ø Bus-bar lines and temperature monitoring Ø Thermometers and integration Ø Preliminary P&ID Ø Conclusions M. Sisti (TE-CRG) - 29 Oct 2020 CM meeting 2

Bus-bar lines Where bus-bar lines (N lines), dedicated to the magnet cold-powering Why need for temperature monitoring during: o Cool down (and cold mass filling): to monitor temperature trend and He condensations o Nominal operating mode: to guarantee superconductive cryo-conditions in the N lines M. Sisti (TE-CRG) - 29 Oct 2020 CM meeting 3

Thermometers and integration How: § § § Thermometers for cryogenic applications able to measure at 1. 9 K with an accuracy >10 m. K Selected technology: Cernox (LHC experience: >5000 units) Installation layout: sensor screwed to a support-equipped pipe element, integrated into the N lines Where: two locations on Quads (plus one more on D 1) Installation guide: LHC-QIT-AP-0002, EDMS # 110748 Cernox (long) Flow direction Ref. STDQKIN_0029 -v 0 M. Sisti (TE-CRG) - 29 Oct 2020 CM meeting 4

P&ID (preliminary) D 1 extremity non-IP side M. Sisti (TE-CRG) - 29 Oct 2020 Q 3 extremity IP side Q 1 extremity IP side CM meeting 5

Conclusions Ø The need for temperature monitoring on the N lines were identified. Ø Implementation shall be via Cernox + pipe elements integrated into the lines Ø Two locations on the Quads, at Q 1 and Q 3 extremities (IP side) M. Sisti (TE-CRG) - 29 Oct 2020 CM meeting 6
