Thermo Mechanical staves Slide by Ian Wilmut Work
Thermo Mechanical staves Slide by Ian Wilmut – Work by everyone else 1
Where we are… • We have a 250 nm thermo mechanical stave – It was built “as a real stave” – It has been tested with real powers (twice those it was designed for) – Its deflections have been measured (low tech) • We have learnt – – – That the stave build process works That the core performs thermally as we expect That we didn’t glue things down very well That wire bonding needs to be improved The blow off cooling plant performs as intended Nothing calamitous happens to the stave! ATLAS upgrade week, Feb 2009 2
Broadly what we need to do next • Make the stave more robust before further testing • Understand what tests we need to do at RAL (if any) • Install in to ESPI for more precise testing – Understand what tests will happen in ESPI • Understand all results in FEA • Extract lessons learnt from TM stave and apply to design of 130 nm stave ATLAS upgrade week, Feb 2009 3
What I think we need to get from this discussion • Description of what we need to do before the TM goes to Oxford • What we need to do at Oxford • What the next TM object look like • What is the timescale for the above ATLAS upgrade week, Feb 2009 4
What remains to happen at RAL ATLAS upgrade week, Feb 2009 5
What to happen at Oxford ATLAS upgrade week, Feb 2009 6
Next TM object • What is the next TM object? – 250 nm? – 130 nm? • What is its spec? ATLAS upgrade week, Feb 2009 7
