LUKE 8: 4 -15 • THEN COMETH THE DEVIL

• 4 And • • • when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable: 5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. 6 And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. 7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. 8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 9 And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?

• 10 And • he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. 11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. 13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. 14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. 15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience • 12 Those • • •

What the devil wants to do: • 1. The devil wants you to be defeated. • 2. The devil wants you to struggle through your entire life. • 3. The devil wants you to be sick, depressed, down in the dumps, glum, and miserable. • 4. The devil wants you to feel like you will never hit the target with your life. • But Jesus wants to give you a life that is unrivaled, unequaled, matchless, incomparable, richly loaded, and overflowing with life to • the ultimate maximum!

I Pet. 5: 8 His objective is to Destroy man (us) eternally!. a)He is powerful and deceptive. Eph. 6: 11 -2 b)His power is seen in that he got such great people Adam & Eve –Abraham – Moses – David - to sin

Look what the devil did to Adam and Eve. . Then cometh the devil… • Gen. 3: 1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? • 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: • 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. • 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: • 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. • 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

Look what the devil did with Abraham • Abraham lied about Sarah his wife- twice • 1. Gen. 12: 18, 19 Pharaoh asked: “. . why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife? Why sadist thou, She is my sister? ” • 2. Gen. 20: 2 He said to Abimelech king of Gerar…”She is my sister. ”

Look what the devil did to Moses smote the rock…as God said. Ex. 17: 5, 6 The people murmured against Moses. God told Moses to Go before the people, taking his rod. . “v. 6 Behold, I will stand before there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. ” • Numbers 20: 1 ff When the people in the desert of Zin complained they had no water. Moses was told to speak to the rock. Num. 20: 10 “. . Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? V. 11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: . .

Look what the devil did to David. . • 2 Sam. 11: 2 And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. • 2 Sam. 12: 1 -5 v. 13 “I have sinned against the Lord. ”

The Devil. . and his servants…are Powerful! • What does the Devil use to get man to sin…Blind eyes of men. • 1. Prosperity to kill Spirituality. . • 2 Cor. 4: 4 • Israel was warned of this danger: • Deut. 8: 11 -17 • Amos 6: 1

When Some Men Have Prosperity. . Then Cometh the Devil • Chokes out the word. Lk. 8: 14 No time for God; No interest in God • Become entangled in the world. 2 Tim. 2: 4 “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life ; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. ” cf 2 Pet. 20: 20 -22 • We become self-sufficient. No dependence on God. • Look at the church at • Laodicea Rev. 3: 17 “. . because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; • I Tim. 6: 17 “Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy. . ”

When Some Men Have Poverty --Then cometh the devil • 1. Tries to cause man to curse God…blame Him. • Job 2: 9 • 2. Tempts to dishonest means of wealth. • I Tim. 6: 10 “For the love of money is… • 3. Some sell their souls for a ‘few dollars” JUDAS Matt. 27: 3 Proverbs 30: 8 -9 Remove far from me vganity and lies: give me neither poverty, nor riches, feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? Or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

When Men are Weak—Then cometh the Devil • 1. The devil will attack the most vulnerable point… • We must be on guard…Need for watching, guarding. • 2. The devil goes after the stragglers • 3. The Devil approached Christ when he was hungry, thirsty, . . • he appealed to our Lord’s weakness at that time. • Matt. 4: 1 -10

When Men are strong. . Then cometh the devil • 1. Look at Peter. Matt. 26: 35 “I am ready… I will never deny • Thee…. . but then cometh the devil… • 2. . Paul was given a thorn in the flesh to keep him humble. • 2 Cor. 12: 7 -10

When the church has success—Then cometh the devil. . Look at the church at Corinth. • A time of ‘spiritual gifts’. The church was not behind any • I Cor. 1: 7 • a) Consider what they were doing: “puffed up and not • mourning the deplorable sins among them. I Cor. 5: ) • b) What about today?

When A person is determined to correct sin…then cometh the devil • 1. He will try to get you not to do it…you are as good as anyone • else in the congregation. “Self-righteousness” • 2. The devil can gain advantage if not careful. 2 Cor. 2: 11 • Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

When People assemble to Worship— Then cometh the devil. . • John 4: 23 -24 • Job 1: 6; • 2: 1 • To be seen of man, rather than to be seen of God. • This all old-fashioned…we need to change our worship, • Make it more appealing to man. If we are not worshipping • Right, then we do need to change. Is the truth of God • Not good enough for us! •

When one decides to be baptized… then cometh the devil… • 1. • 2. • 3. • 4. You really don’t have to do that you know… You can be baptized sometime later. Most people are not immersed any more. . Wait until a covenient time.
