Overview • • • Summary of F 2 Sep shock test PC/Mass Dummy post sine test separation test F 1, F 3 -5 separation shock tests FM 1 -5 PER Separation System Testing UCB, June 23, 2006

F 2 Sep System Shock Test Sep Shock Test • • • FM 1

F 2 Sep System Shock Test Sep Shock Test • • • FM 1 -5 PER Personnel: Paul Turin and Greg Dalton, Don Jarosz observing Test was performed after vibration testing. F 2 was lifted from vibe table, craned to the firing location above a cushion 2 triax accelerometers were mounted to sep system interface to bottom deck at pyros and opposite Single pyro was fired using NSI Separation was nominal, shock levels were low Separation System Testing UCB, June 23, 2006

F 2 Sep System Shock Test cont. Post Test Inspection/Test • Visual inspection of

F 2 Sep System Shock Test cont. Post Test Inspection/Test • Visual inspection of Sep System components – no problems • Probe LPT checkout successfully completed • ESA HV turned on and channel plates checked out in TV to verify no channel plate damage FM 1 -5 PER Separation System Testing UCB, June 23, 2006

PC/Mass Dummy Sep System Test • • • To be performed after PC/Mass Dummy

PC/Mass Dummy Sep System Test • • • To be performed after PC/Mass Dummy Sine Test Purpose to show that sep system performs nominally after Boeing Sine Test on worst case axis with probe and fuel mass Personnel: Paul Turin and Greg Dalton, Don Jarosz (or proxy) observing THM-MINT-PROC-072 PC Mass Dummy Separation Test Configuration: – – – • • Test performed after vibration while mass mockup and sep system are undisturbed on PC Mass Dummy heavier than kick-off plunger force – shouldn’t actually move – – • FM 1 -5 PER ETU Sep System on petal transverse to shake axis Short SMDC lines to simulate line stiffness Sep connector and both sides of harness in place Shoulder bolts installed to restrict movement just in case Crane, Hydroset, and lift GSE will be attached with slack After firing, Dummy lifted with Hydroset to note any resistance above Dummy weight Separation System Testing UCB, June 23, 2006

PC/Mass Dummy Sep System Test Configuration Five mass mockups ETU sep system on one

PC/Mass Dummy Sep System Test Configuration Five mass mockups ETU sep system on one petal, simulators on rest FM 1 -5 PER Separation System Testing UCB, June 23, 2006

F 1 -5 Sep System Separation Test • • • FM 1 -5 PER

F 1 -5 Sep System Separation Test • • • FM 1 -5 PER Repeat of F 2 test on all five probes. F 2 will be tested again for completeness and to test it after acoustics. The second test on F 2 will also satisfy the GEVS protoflight requirement for two shocks Personnel: Paul Turin and Greg Dalton, Don Jarosz observing THM-MINT-PROC-070 Sep Sys Test Procedure Test performed after PCA vibration and acoustic testing. Probes are lifted from the PC, craned to the firing location above a cushion. Triax accelerometers are installed on Sep Ring @ pyro bracket and opposite side and instrumentation is hooked up (JPL will collect data) Single pyro will be fired using a NSI Nonessential personnel will be cleared from bay during setup, cell phones banned within 30’ during these operations All personnel will be behind bay door for test firing We will film the tests Separation System Testing UCB, June 23, 2006

Post- Sep Test Configuration • After the Sep test, the separation systems will be

Post- Sep Test Configuration • After the Sep test, the separation systems will be restowed without bolt cutters • • flight cutters are not to be exposed to TV Do not want cutters on for spin balance • Flight cutters will be installed at Astrotech prior to PCA buildup FM 1 -5 PER Separation System Testing UCB, June 23, 2006
