Recipe For Disaster

Recipe for Disaster in Marriage � � Do not be unequally yoke together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion has light with darkness? (2 Corinthians. 6: 14) Is it sin to marry a non-believer? If your answer is yes, then I ask, what about 1 Corinthians. 7: 13 -16?

1 Corinthians 7: 13 -17 “And if a woman has a husband who is an unbeliever and he consents to live with her she should not divorce him … But if the unbeliever leaves, let him do so. A believing man or woman is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to peace. ”

� � � So Paul says, it is not sin to marry to a non -believer. Then why was he so emphatic in 2 Cor. 6: 14 not to be unequally yoke together with nonbelievers? The answer is found in the word fellowship. This means they cannot be happy in each other’s company as their values are not the same-compatible. If a believer marries a non-believer the Bible calls it a recipe for disaster.

God’s Reasons For No Mix. Marriages

Deuteronomy 7: 3 -4 “You shall not make marriages with them, giving your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons. For they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods…” 1. They would turn your sons away from following me to serve other gods.

Remember King Solomon “But King Solomon loved many foreign women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh, women of Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites. From these nations of whom the Lord had said to the children of Israel, you shall not intermarry with them, nor they with you. Surely they will turn away your heart after their gods. Solomon clung to these women…For it was so when Solomon was old that his wives turned his heart after other gods …. ” (1 Kings 11: 113)

Problems of Solomon � � � Solomon disobeys God by marrying many foreign women (vv. 2) They turn his heart away from Jehovah God (vv. 4) He did evil in the sight of God (vv. 6) He built in Jerusalem pagan temples for all his foreign wives (vv. 7) He offers sacrifices to these pagan gods (vv. 8) The Lord was angry with him (vv. 8)

Those who want to disobey God’s word by marrying non-believers, remember the story of Solomon. He was the wisest and the most foolish man at the same time. Those who choose to follow Solomon’s example think they are wise but God says, no it is not wise. Remember Solomon’s foolishness.

Joshua 23: 12 -13 If you turn your back, and join the remnant of these nations left here among you, and make marriages with them, so that you marry their women and they yours… they shall be a snare and a trap for you, a scourge on your sides, and thorns in your eyes, till you perish in the good land which the Lord your God has given you.

Joshua gives three reasons for no mix-marriages. These are: 1. Snare and trap to you 2. Scourge on your sides 3. Thorns in your flesh

Four Reasons for No Mix-Marriages According to God in the books of Deuteronomy and Joshua 1. Turn your children away from following me (Remember Solomon) 2. Snare and trap to you 3. Whips on your back 4. Continuous thorns in your eyes This means mix-marriage will be a source of continuous unhappiness.

Remember Samson the Strongest man. Was he? (Judges 1316) � � � He saw a Philistine woman He said to his parents, “I want to marry her. ” His parents said: “Are there no girls in Israel? ” He says, “No, get her for me she pleases me well. ” He had a love foreign women.

� � � As a result of disobeying God and his parents he lost his eyes. He became a slave to the Philistines. Children would come and make funs of him every day He was the strongest man (physically) and the weakest man (morally) Someone says, “Samson was a “he-man” with a “she-weakness. ”

Ellen G. White “My sister, unless you would have a home where the shadows are never lifted, never unite yourself with one who is the enemy of God. ” (Adventist Home, 67)

Summary � � � It is not sinful to marry a non-believer. But they will find it hard to live together as their values and beliefs differ from one another. It will lead the Christian partner away from God. Become a constant source of physical and emotional pain. So be extra careful of the choice of a life partner. Young people, pray for God’s guidance as he knows what is best for you.

If you don’t and marry a wrong partner, the Bible calls it, a recipe of disaster. Therefore choose wisely.
