Mission Statement The yearbook is for students to remember their high school years. Whether it is a year down the road or ten. We will strive to make this yearbook memorable for everyone. We should try to incorporate every student’s experiences. From their first school dance to their graduation day, all their memories should be recorded so they never forget a person, place or moment. It shouldn’t matter if they’re in ten school clubs or none at all. We all seek the same thing when we open a yearbook. We want to see ourselves and our friends having fun and participating in school activities. Our journey as individuals start when we enter high school, from grade 9 to 12 we change into completely different people and it’s important that our yearbook captures this journey.
Travel and Journey • As we experience high school we go through both a physical and metaphorical journey as we change into the individuals we want to become. • We want to show the diversity that is present in our school community. • Make the yearbook personal for each student and their personal journey.
Evaluating A Theme How does theme apply to a specific school year? • This theme doesn’t apply to a specific school year but rather to the school experience. What attitude or tone does theme evoke? • This theme evokes feelings of a spiritual and physical journey of high school. • This theme will strive to be contemplative and make student think about how they will or did change throughout the school year. What spin-offs or mini-themes are used to explain the verbal theme? • We are using the colour scheme from different places throughout the world, whether it is a beach, city, or jungle to create a sense of unity in the yearbook and relate back to our theme of travel/ journey. Does the verbal theme appear anywhere else? • we intent to portray it more visually than verbally. Through colours and symbols we will convey theme. List all of the places theme appears in this yearbook. • In the divisions of the grades • In the activity page • Title page • Front page • All throughout
Cover Idea
• We want to use this as the front page but instead of countries we want to relate it with school. • For example English street or Art lane
ENDSHEETS
How do the visual elements of theme relate to verbal message? • The visual elements will include: passport stamps from various countries, colour schemes based in biomes, prints from different cultures, map visuals, and a crossroads sign for the titles page. How do the colours on the cover, endsheet and theme pages demonstrate theme? • The colours on the endsheet and theme pages demonstrates theme because they reflect the diversity found not only in the school but in travels. Also, the colours illustrates the different places around the world, the various things we see on a journey, just like we do in high school. How does the typography demonstrate theme? • The focus of this theme is not typography but is, instead, on colours and symbols. However, we intend to keep the typography handwritten like keeping a journal of a trip. Is theme effective? • The theme is effective because it is inclusive of cultures, it reflects an inner journey through an outward, physical trip, and most importantly this theme can be understood by the students of our school.

How will theme be incorporated into the coverage? • We will incorporate our theme into our coverage by using a color scheme of the season when the event took place. Will you rearrange the sections of the book? • We will follow the chronological order of the school year. Will you use theme-related layers of coverage? • We will use our coverage of the Europe trip and any other school trip to any location outside of the school.
