Theme Learning Year 2 Week beginning 29 th June 2020
Today we are going to be thinking about how much our families and parents do for us. A few weeks ago we did a ‘gratitude’ scavenger hunt and we have had Father’s Day too. Your PSHE task for today is to think of 5 things you would like to say thank you to each of your parents for. These could be big things that they do or little things that perhaps you sometimes forget to say thank you for. . Perhaps carrying your scooter home after you ride it to school? Taking you to a club every week? Can you think of 5 things to say thank you for to each special adult in your life? Monday 29 th June 2020 LI: PSHE – To be thankful
Tuesday 30 th June 2020 LI: To take a virtual drive around a track and label key parts. Today we are going to be getting ready for the return of the F 1 season this weekend and for the DT project you will be doing later this week! What is the name of the race track where the UK F 1 Grand Prix takes place? We are going to be looking at somewhere in our local area that is famous and imagining that we are a F 1 driver today racing around the track. What do you think you would need to know about a race track if you were driving on it?
Tuesday 30 th June 2020 LI: To take a virtual drive around a track and label key parts. Click on the link below to watch a video and be driven round Silverstone by Lewis Hamilton. Can you listen out for some things. . . 1. How many turns are there on the track? 2. Can you hear the names of any of the turns or parts of the track? 3. Why does he need to change gear so much? https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=l. RW 9 GCXJh. YQ
Tuesday 30 th June 2020 Activity: After having a virtual drive around the track, we would like you to carefully label the different corners and parts of the circuit. Use the image to help you label the key parts and the answers map to help you label any you can’t find online. The image below shows how it has changed since opening. https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=QVk. N 3 z 33 HBM
ZOOM! DT Project
Wednesday 1 st July LI: To design your own race car. Today we are going to be using everything we have learnt about moving vehicles, their parts and racing cars to design our own new F 1 racing cars. F 1 would like you to design a new racing car for the next season. They have the following requests. .
Activity
Activity Each of you will have collected or been able to collect a special DT project kit from school that has all of the basic pieces in it to create and build your own racing car. Today we would like you to be as creative as you like and design the racing car you would like to build and make. Look at the old designs of racing cars – what do you notice about their shape? What do some have on the back of their chassis to help them be quicker? Please design your racing car thinking about the extra things you could add to your frame – card to change its shape, toilet rolls and lollipop sticks for spoilers. Have a look at home for any of the things you might want to add!
Activity Some examples and ideas. . . Things to think about: What colour will you use? Will you have any pattern? Are you going to have a spoiler? Are you adding anything extra? Do you want to change the shape?
Thursday 2 nd July LI: To use your design to build a racing car Hopefully everyone has been able to come and collect their DT Car kit from school. In your kit you should have. . 1. A chassis frame box to build 2. A set of 4 wheels 3. 2 axles. These things will help you to create the basic frame for your moving racing car but the rest is up to you.
Thursday 2 nd July LI: To use your design to build a racing car Today we are going to be building the chassis frame for your car and adding any of the extra items you want to add as well as the design detail/pattern. These will need to be glued and added BEFORE you start to paint or colour it in. It is tricky to add things on after you have started painting. Using your design sheet from yesterday and click on the link with today’s resources to see how to make the chassis frame. Then you can start to create your own car. Enjoy! These are some designs from last year
Friday 3 rd July LI: To design and build your own racing car Today you are going to continue to building your car and adding detail to it! Yesterday we build the basic frame and chassis of our racing car and used our design sheets to help us to add any extra pieces, design and pattern to the frame. Today we are going to continue building our racing cars. First; We would like you to paint or add detail to your wheels before starting to add colour and paint to your frame. Are you going to have a pattern? What colour are they going to be?
Friday 3 rd July LI: To design and build your own racing car Have you used your design to add the initial detail and pattern to your chassis? Today you need to design, paint or colour your 4 wheels for your racing car Next you can start to add the colour and start to decorate your car. Remember to do the base colour first then add the extra colours after this has dried! Click on the link and video on the blog on Friday’s theme resources to help you to see what to do next to add the wheels and axles to your car. Have fun F 1 engineers – remember to take photos and send these in with your designs. Step by step would be AMAZING!!
