The Yanomami Indians They are regarded to be the last stone age people living in the Amazon rainforest. Currently, there are close to 26, 000 living scattered on the border region between Brazil and Venezuela. Like most Brazilian indigenous people, the Yanomami are semi-nomadic farmers or hunters. The name "Yanomami" derived from an indigenous expression which means "human beings. " They are considered to be an isolated tribe, divided among four subgroups, according to linguistic differentiation. Their land is rich in noble woods like mahogany and strategic minerals like uranium, as well as gold and diamonds. The Yanomami are also known for their close relationship to nature, relying on their territory while attributing cultural significance and myths to their surroundings. Unfortunately, their culture is being endangered by the invasion of the western civilization.
