WHAT IS THE WRITING PROCESS? ØA series of overlapping steps that most writers follow in composing texts. 5 Steps

ST 1 STEP: BRAINSTORMING (PREWRITING) Ask yourself: Ø What will you be talking about? Ø What are you trying to accomplish? Ø Who is your audience? Ø What do you know? Ø What do you need to know? Write it down!

ST 1 STEP: BRAINSTORMING (PREWRITING) Some techniques: ØGraphic organizers Ø Free writing Ø List

ND 2 STEP: DRAFTING Ø Gather the information and put it together. ØWrite, Write! In sentences and paragraphs (appropriate language for the assignment). Ø Read it and decide if you are getting the point across. Is it clear? ØIf not make changes.

RD 3 STEP: REVISING ØRead it out loud. Ø Is there any other information that the reader needs to know? Ø Are there any unnecessary details? ØAre there repeated or unclear words? Ø Is it clear and easy to follow? Ø Could I change anything to make my expressions stronger? Make necessary changes.

TH 4 STEP: PROOF READING Make sure you have correct: ØSpelling ØCapitalization ØPunctuation ØGrammar ØSentence Structure ØSubject/Verb Agreement ØWord Usage If possible give it to another person to read. Ask for their honest opinion.

TH 5 STEP: PUBLISHING This is the final step! You're done!
