What is a URL? • A URL is the protocol identifier and name of the resource. It specifies how much information from the link that is transferred. An example of a protocol used for the web is HTTP (hypertext transfer protocol) it specifies the internet protocol (IP), address or a domain name where the resource(s) are located. • To enter a website you must enter the websites “URL” or be directed to the websites “URL” by clicking on a link from the previous website/search engine.
What is a Hyperlink? • A hyperlink is a link from a hypertext document to another location. It is activated by clicking on a highlighted world or image contained within the document. • Hyperlinks are usually displayed on web pages and more easily identified from a navigation bar of a web-page.
What are Browsers? • Browsers are a tool used to “browse” the internet. For example: Google chrome, firefox, opera, safari and other web browsers are all tools used to search/browse the world wide web. They all differ in design, speed & functions but they all serve the same purpose: To browse the internet.
Mobile devices on the world wide web • The mobile web refers to browser-based internet services which is accessed from handheld mobile devices like smartphones, tablets and even watches. Originally the world wide web was always accessed via a fixed line services to laptops and desktop computers. The web is more accessible via portable and wireless devices such as mobiles phones and tablets • Web for mobile has also been called Web 3. 0
Wi-Fi / Internet Speeds • Internet speeds are important on the world wide web. Websites that have larger file sizes for things such as images & videos might not be as accessible to everyone with lower speeds. • Websites should account for devices using Wi-Fi as generally devices have slower speeds using Wi-Fi compared to devices that are connected via Ethernet cable.
