THE CANONICITY OF THE BIBLE What does Canon mean? • It comes from the word “kanon”, meaning a “rule” or a “critical standard”. “A fixed amount”; “A defined limit. ” Canonization Is The Process Of Determining Which Writings “Measured Up” As Real Scripture. Some Bible versions have certain books that are not found in the KJV. Some versions use the 13 books of the Apocrapha. The word “Apocrapha” means “hidden author”. • Canonization Was Only The Recognition Of A Book’s God-given Authority (By book I mean a certain book of the Bible such as Genesis, or Isaiah) --Canonization did not give the book its authority. The authority of the Book was not determined by canonization, but by God. Canonicity is determined by God and discovered by man. The 66 original autographs that would make up the Bible as we know it today have never been in the same place at the same time. The Bible, as we have it today, has never existed in the “original”. The Bible was compiled long after the originals had been lost or destroyed.
