THE WOMAN AT THE WELL JOHN CHAPTER 4 Created by Becky Kew Available at www. Gospel. Hall. org
There was a woman from the Country of Samaria who came to a well to draw water.
The Lord Jesus was sitting at that same well. He knew that she was going to come. The Bible says that the Lord was tired, so he sat.
He knows all things. He knew what this woman was going through in her life, he knew about her loneliness and broken heart. Does he know all about your life?
The people of Israel at that time and the people of Samaria did not get along. Are we any different?
The Lord Jesus was thirsty and asked her for a drink. She was surprised that he would even talk to her, she knew he was Jewish.
God is not a respecter of person’s. what does this mean? Col. 3: 25 He looks on the heart not on the outward appearance. (thoughts and motives) 1 Samuel 16: 7
Jesus said, if you really knew who you were talking to you would ask for living water. What did the Lord Jesus mean? Look at Vs. 14 and Chap. 7: 37 -38
The woman did not understand, she thought Jesus was talking about physical water. Jesus said that this water will just make you thirsty again.
It’s the same as with the things of this world. They just leave us with wanting bigger and better things. They don’t satisfy.
The woman wanted this water. But before the Lord could give it to her, she needed to be convicted of her Sin. She had to be willing to turn from it, before she could have the gift of God.
The Lord told her to get her husband. She said she didn’t have a husband, and Jesus said true. She had five husbands and the man she was with now, wasn’t her husband. • Exodus 20: 14
The Samaritan Woman realized that Jesus was no ordinary man. When The Lord showed her that he was God, who had come down from Heaven, she left her water pot.
She told many people about the Lord. The people believed on Jesus because of her testimony. John 4: 38 She was going to live a new life now, because she had put her faith in the Savior forgiveness of her sins. The Samaritans asked the Lord to stay and he stayed for two more days. Read John 4: 40 -42
The Lord met the need of her “thirsty soul. ” We all have this need, that only the Son of God can fill. John 4: 14.
