Facts about wolves and moose on Isle Royale. On Isle Royale there should normally be about 18 to 27 wolves and 700 to 1200 moose. This year there instead of 18 to 27 there is only 9. One of them is a female. In 1996 the moose population went down a lot because they got unexpexted moose ticks. Also there was a very severe cold, life threatening winter so most of the moose had died that winter. Most of the wolves on Isle Royale died during 1980 because humans brought over a disease called the canine parvovirus, and in 2008 the wolf population went down very much and there having a hard time trying to get it back up. On Isle Royale there should normally be about 700, to 1200.
Why is the wolf population going down more than the moose population? The wolves of Isle Royale were getting diseases, and then it killed most of them and so left is only one female and nine males and it is hard to repopulate. But the moose there are still many of them living many females and many males and the only reason that their population was going down was because there was a cold winter, but it is very easy to repopulate with the moose because there is many males and female but with the wolves it is hard to repopulate because there is one female and not many males.
