Evaluation of 2004/5 o o Curriculum time needed better organisation Underestimated skills required for Individual Investigation Naïve about requirements of Wider Key Skills portfolios Reinforcing with staff and pupils needs to be constant
Evaluation 2004/5 continued o o o Tutorial system is vital and needs to be closely monitored Form tutors need to be pro-bac and very informed Parents need WBQ info and updates regularly Welsh Bac can be said too much!! Must track work and completion
WBQ@YBE – 2006/7 o o o Curriculum time re-organised to provide: One WEW lesson One Wider KS lesson per week One Main KS lesson per week , carousel, to include PSE Choice of Language module, Welsh and Spanish Tighter control of tutorial system, more tutors, fewer students More informed Induction, drip feeding Tighter control of staffing and delivery, monitoring and checking Deadlines for all aspects tracked from Sept Frequent crossovers , SMARTER working system Regular and more useful meetings Better marketing to pupils and parents, more frequent
Present Aims o o o To complete as much as possible in Year 12 To seek to work more smartly all the time To improve the quality of the experience, considering the process and not just the passing To ensure choice for students where possible To delegate more effectively to ensure sustainability To encourage enthusiasm and imaginative contributions
Ideas that Seem to Work o o o Pairing up Working With Others and Team Enterprise Completing Problem Solving through an outdoor activities day, but expensive WEW by experience, speakers and visits Carouselling some elements to ensure all is covered and time not wasted IOLP through tutorial: keep it personalised Community participation in school
Staffing and Funding o o Must have a coordinator: job description is interesting Support from deputy co-ordinator or admin help Roles and duties must be clearly delegated and accountability clear Integration into subject options is ideal o o o Funding is promised for roll-out to ensure, “adequate resources and support structures” Schools/colleges must have some independence over expenditure Money won’t buy students a longer week, planning will still be priority
The Future for the WBQ@YBE o o o Compulsory aspect works for us and will continue We will seek to innovate more and challenge students to higher levels of achievement and more personalised choices Must address sustainability through better integration Will develop Intermediate for Year 12 only students Are piloting Foundation level and will evaluate its impact and curricular role
