THE WAY OF ESCAPE Lessons About Gods Character
THE WAY OF ESCAPE Lessons About God’s Character from 1 Corinthians 10: 13
1. GOD IS NO RESPECTER OF PERSONS • “as is common to man…” • God does not single us out and give us something that he doesn’t give others; we all experience and face the same things with God; our situation is not unique (1 Jn. 2: 16; 1 Pet. 5: 9)
1. GOD IS NO RESPECTER OF PERSONS • No respecter of persons (Acts 10: 34; Rom. 2: 11; Eph. 6: 9; 1 Pet. 1: 17) • A common faith (Tit. 1: 4) and a common salvation (Jude 3)
2. GOD IS FAITHFUL • “God is faithful…” • God is trustworthy and can be counted upon to do the right thing every time and in every way (Lam. 3: 23)
2. GOD IS FAITHFUL • To us who obey (Deut. 7: 9) • Treat us fairly (Deut. 32: 4) • Preserve us entirely (1 Thess. 5: 23 -24) • Guard us from evil (2 Thess. 3: 3)
3. GOD IS IN CONTROL • “who will not allow you to be tempted…” • God through his providence permits, but limits; he permits, adapts, and subordinates; he sets fixed boundaries (Job 1 -2)
4. GOD KNOWS OUR LIMITATIONS • “beyond what you are able…” • God knows what we can endure and will not allow us to face anything greater than that (2 Cor. 12: 7 -10; Jas. 5: 11)
5. GOD IS OUR DELIVERER • “will provide the way of escape…” • God is not merely a spectator; he gets involved; he provides and delivers through his providence and protection (Dan. 3: 17; 2 Cor. 1: 10; 2 Tim. 4: 17 -18; 2 Pet. 2: 9)
5. GOD IS OUR DELIVERER • God is trying to get us out of sin, not into it (Jas. 1: 13 -17) • Escape from destruction (Gen. 19: 20 -21) • Escape from trouble (Psa. 124: 7; Acts 27: 44) • Escape from the world (2 Pet. 1: 4)
6. GOD WORKS WITH US • “you will be able to endure it” • God works with us; any temptation can be resisted and endured by us, but we have to do our part
6. GOD WORKS WITH US • We work together in salvation (Acts 2: 21, 40) • We work together in saving souls (1 Cor. 3: 6) • We work together in daily faithfulness (Lk. 22: 32; Jn. 10: 27 -29; Phil. 2: 12 -13; 1 Pet. 1: 5)
