USS Constitution u The USS Constitution was never defeated in battle. u Its nickname, “Old Ironsides”, was established when a British ship saw a cannon ball bounce off the ship’s exterior.
USS Constitution (continued) u Although it was nicknamed “Old Ironsides”, it was made of wood. u The ship was scheduled to be destroyed, but a poem encouraged Congress to protect the symbol of American might.
American Indians/ Mohawk War Chief John Norton-E. C u His real name: Teyoninhokarawen u He was born to Indian and Scottish parents. u He was a great commander, and fought many battles with the British.
The Battle of Tippecanoe (BOT) Tecumseh and “The Prophet” u They were both brothers. u They founded Prophetstown and organized a revolt against the American settlers.
BOT: William Henry Harrison u William Henry Harrison was the winning general of the Battle of Tippecanoe. u Gen. William Henry Harrison, organized a small army of 1, 000 men to take over Prophetstown revolt.
BOT: Details of the Battle u The battle was located by the Tippecanoe River in Northern Indiana u 37 soldiers were dead, 25 others were to die of injuries, and over 126 Americans were wounded, but the Indians wounded is unknown.
BOT: Impact on Americans and Indians u After the Battle of Tippecanoe, the confederation fell apart and Tecumseh felt it to be too risky to rebuild it. u It opened up the War of 1812 and led the Americans to many victories.
