The VEX 2. 0 Cortex Ports

The VEX 2. 0 Cortex 1. Input = data can go into the controller 2. Output = data and/or power can come out of the controller 3. Serial = is both data in and out! “ 2 way communication”

The VEX 2. 0 Cortex • CONFIG = TOTAL RESET BUTTON, do not press, will have to go online, • 9 V battery = allows you reinstall software, to change the main and possibly have battery out while not to make phone losing your robots call to tech programming! Leave it support to get hooked up, and will save unlocking codes! you time, and…

Motor Controllers • Let you control how much power goes to the motor. • Relay, that takes a low voltage “computer output” and steps it up in power/AMPS!

Motor Controllers • Ports 1 and 10 have built in motor controllers inside the cortex. • 2 -9 do NOT so you will have to add external motor controllers to motors on these ports.

Circuit Breakers! • The cortex has two built in circuit breakers. • So, it is best whenever possible to divide your motors between the two breakers!

The VEX 2. 0 Cortex • UART I 2 C ports – allows serial communication • EX: Use with intergraded encoders on motors • Measure degrees of rotation of the motor!

The VEX 2. 0 Cortex • Digital – is a string of data EX: 1010010101 and low voltage/amperage • Analog – On/Off like a push button! Can/could have and/or use more voltage/amperage!

The VEX 2. 0 Cortex • Green, yellow, and/or red • Green all good! • Yellow is working on it. • Red means that a problem has been detected!

The VEX 2. 0 Cortex • Robot is the cortex • Vexnet is the communications between cortex and remote! • Game is your program.

WIFI Dongle • You must get two dongles to talk to each other. • You may have to physically move away from WIFI router in the room! • You need to be away from other active dongles in the room as well!!!

Plug in the USB cable. • Plug the orange USB cable into your cortex and to your PC Need to check and see if your firmware needs to be updated. • I would leave the 9 V backup battery plugged in at all times, and it won’t hurt anything to leave the 7. 2 V main battery plugged in as well.
