• On a dark night a little egg lay on a leaf. O

• The very next Sunday morning the warm sun rose.

• POP! Out of that little egg came a tiny caterpillar.

• The very hungry caterpillar began to search for some food.

• On Monday he ate through one apple, but he was still hungry.

• On Tuesday he ate right through 2 pears, but he was still hungry.

• On Wednesday he ate three plums, but he was still hungry.

• On Thursday he ate four strawberries, but he was still hungry.

• On Friday he ate through five oranges, but he was still hungry.

• On Saturday he ate one piece of chocolate cake, one ice-cream cone,

one pickle, one slice of Swiss cheese,

one slice of salami, one lollipop,

one piece of cherry pie, one sausage,

one cupcake, and one slice of watermelon.

• That night he had a terrible stomachache!

• The next day the caterpillar just ate one green leaf.

• He felt much better after that.

• The caterpillar was not hungry anymore.

• He wasn’t a little caterpillar anymore either. He was a big, fat caterpillar.

• The caterpillar built a cocoon around himself.

• He stayed inside his cocoon for two weeks.

• Then…he nibbled a hole, pushed his way out, and…

he was a beautiful butterfly.
