THE VERB IR

When do you use IR? Ir means and it’s used to talk about

ir = to go yo nosotros nosotras tú vosotros vosotras usted él ella ustedes ellos ellas

Ir is always followed by the word a (to). When a is followed by the word el, it combines to make the word al. a + el = al Ex. Yo voy al baño. I’m going to the bathroom.

EJEMPLOS 1. Nosotros ______ a la cafetería. 2. Jorge ______ al gimnasio. 3. Yo no ______ a la enfermería. 4. Ustedes ______ a la sala de español. 5. Tú ______ al auditorio.

The Verb IR to Express the Future ir + a + infinitive

l The verb ir can be used to talk about what you are going to do by using the following construction:

ir + a voy vamos vais va van + infinitive an unconjugated verb (still ends in –AR, -ER, -IR)

EJEMPLOS 1. I’m going to study. 2. Are you going to watch TV? 3. Marta is going to play volleyball. 4. We are going to listen to music. 5. The students are going to work.

EJEMPLOS I’m going to study. Yo voy a estudiar. SUBJECT + “IR” + A + INFINITIVE

EJEMPLOS Are you going to watch TV? ¿Tú vas a ver la televisón? SUBJECT + “IR” + A + INFINITIVE
