I agree the UK benefits hugely from links with the rest of the world One clear link is through trade. The UK has strong trade links with many countries, particularly the EU with 40% of our trade, with Germany as our biggest import partner. Our biggest export partner is the USA, but many EU countries do a lot of trade with us e. g. France and Switzerland. This benefits the UK because many British companies make profit from international trade, supporting the UK economy, creating jobs, and improving standard of living. Many thousands of jobs are also created in ports and airports through this trade. Another link is through culture and media. The UK exports films worth £ 1. 28 billion for example Dr Who and Downton Abbey. Migration to the UK also means we benefit from access to foreign food, films, fashion and music This benefits the UK because we gain economically from the sale of media, and it makes us a multicultural society, where people have access to a wide range of cultural influences. A final link is through Transport. The UK is linked to the rest of the world by rail, e. g. the Chanel tunnel, air e. g. Heathrow, one of the business airports in the world, and ports and ferries e. g. Liverpool 2 and Dover. This benefits the UK because UK residents can holiday around the world, particularly the Mediterranean, improving their quality of life, and businesses can benefit from good transport links, and easy access around the world for international meetings, boosting the economy.
