The Theme Of Hate In

HATE �In Romeo and Juliet we see that love overcomes the hate between the two families. �We see that hate and vengeance are everywhere in Verona and not even the prince can stop it and bring peace. �Benvolio’s efforts to bring peace are also in vain. �Friar Laurence tries to bring peace but fate intervenes with his plans.

Main scenes with theme of Hate �Act 1 Scene 1: Sampson and Gregory speak with hate of the Montagues and cause a fight. �Act 1 Scene 5: Tybalt’s hate for the Montagues makes him think that Romeo is disgracing his family. �Act 3 Scene 5: Mercutio is disgusted at Romeo accepting Tybalt calling him a “villain”. They're hate for each other causes the fight. � The final scene: love finally overcomes the hate.

Capulet and Montague’s Hate �In Act 1 Scene 1: during the brawl Capulet and Montague want to join and fight each other. �CAPULET: What's this noise? Give me my long sword! Tybalt � Tybalt has a strong hate for the Montagues: “As I hate hell, all Montagues and thee. ” � Tybalt hates peace with the Montagues. “What drawn and talk of peace? I hate the word” � Tybalt does not think it a sin to kill a Montague “To strike him dead I hold it not a sin. ”

Mercutio � Mercutio hates the Capulets just as much as Tybalt hates the Montagues. Mercutio believes that tybalt is very violent “Couple it with something make it a word and a blow” Mercutio plagues both the Capulets and Montagues when he’s dying. “ A plague o’ both your houses”

Romeo And Juliet �At the beginning Juliet also feels a hate for the Montagues “My only love sprung from my only hate” �Romeo never really felt this strong hate for the Capulets as at the beginning we see he is in love with the Capulet Rosaline.

Overcoming Hate �Romeo and Juliet’s death is the only thing that can overcome the family’s hate. �“Capulet Montague! See what scourage is laid upon your hate. ” �In the end Capulet calls Montague “ O brother Montague. ”
