Scripture LUKE 4: 1 -13 (KJV) And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 Being forty days tempted by the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. 4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. 5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, showed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. 7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be yours. 8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: 10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: 11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season. 14 ¶And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
Jesus had just been baptized and was led by the spirit into the wilderness to be with God. He talked with Jesus all day long. He did not eat anything for 40 days because He was fasting.
T E M P T A T I O N 1 The devil came and tempted Jesus to turn stones into bread. Satan’s temptation came at a time when Jesus was physically weak and hungry. Jesus was strong enough and answered Satan and said, “It is written man should not live by bread
T E M P T A T I O N 2 Next, the devil led Jesus to top of a high mountain. The devil told Jesus that He could have everything in the world showing Him all the treasures in it, if He would bow down and worship and him.
T E M P T A T I O N 2 Jesus said, “It is written in the scripture, you must worship the Lord your God and serve Him only. ” (Deut. 6: 13) Ø Jesus commanded the devil to go away. We have that same power today to send the devil away but many times we entertain him and so he lingers. Like Jesus, we too can use scriptures and win over temptations. Note: Even though the devil tempted Jesus, He never sinned.
T E M P T A T I O N 3 The devil took Jesus to the pinnacle (top) of the Temple and told Him to jump from the top of the Temple. • Despite the devil’s insistence, Jesus did not jump. • Jesus knew that it would be
The devil said “If you was the Son of T E M P T A T I O N 3 God, jump the angels would not let you be hurt”. The devil tried using scripture by telling Jesus, God has put angels in charge of you so you won’t get hurt. However, Jesus answered with another scripture by saying, “It is written do not test the Lord your God” (Deut. 6: 16). Jesus left quite an example for us to follow. No matter how the devil tries to tempt us, God always make a way of escape and we don’t have to give in to his temptations. If and when the devil tempts us, the Bible has given us scriptures to use as a defense. Like Jesus, every time the devil came to tempt Him, He used the Word of God.
The angels came and ministered to Jesus is now ready to begin His work. He did not give in to the temptations, no matter what the devil tried. We can do the same thing. Let’s discuss how !
