The Subaru WRX/STI • • • The Subaru WRX/STI is a 4 -door/hatchback sporty car. The Subaru is within the $30, 000 -$50, 000 price range of vehicles. The average Maclean reader is between 25 -49, and makes over $80, 000 a year. Most Maclean readers live in populated areas, and are daily commuters for work. Age 25 -49 is the best age group for the Subaru because they are more geared towards buying a new cars, rather than saving money and getting a used vehicle. The WRX/STI has popular modern styling, and excellent performance, and an excellent history, which makes it much more attractive to a slightly more mature market. Many Maclean readers have children, and coupe sports cars are not an option for them, so by making the Subaru look like a track worthy family car, it makes it more appealing to people with a family. The cost of the advertisement campaign will cost roughly $385, 080, and it will run for 6 -months. The full page ad will be run 6 times, and the half page ad will run 6 times. The ads will run every other week starting with the full page ad. The total each moth will be $36, 670 for the full page and $27, 510 for the half page ad, which brings the total to $64, 180 a month. Advantages & Disadvantages • • Reach- Maclean’s magazine reaches most Canadians, and it mainly reaches the Canadians with higher incomes, which is perfect for my advertisement. Frequency- Maclean’s magazine is releases every week, which is a little often for how much we have to pay to be in an issue, but it is understandable, because it circulates very quickly. Selectivity- people who pick up Maclean’s are not looking to buy a vehicle, but many of them have the means to do so, so by seeing the ad they might be attracted to do so. Durability- Magazines are not just read once, they can be read dozens of times by a huge array of people. Lead-time- Preperation for the ad is very easy, and it takes little lead time. mechanical requirements- The mechanical requirements for the advertisement are fairly simple, and all that is really required is the ad to be properly prepared and sent in by the required date. Clutter- Clutter is a definite disadvantage with Maclean’s, because the magazines readers are not looking for cars, they are just reading the magazine to find out what is new and current in Canada. Costs- The costs for a 1000 people to read the magazine are fairly inexpensive. The last recorded weekly circulation was in 2005, and that was 350, 000 copies a week. So working with an outdated number (the magazines popularity has risen since) the cost for a 1000 people to view the magazine is $104. 77 ($36, 670/350=$104. 77).
