Central Government vs Local Government • Central Government refers to the main body which is responsible for creating policies to run the country e. g Prime Minister, Ministers even the Opposition. • Local Government refers to the body which is responsible for a smaller area in the country such as city, towns and communities e. g Mayor, Councillor. They get funding from the Central government.

Central Government There are three (3) arms of the Central government: • 1. The Executive 2. The Legislative Provides direction Make Laws Executive 3. The Judiciary Enforce Laws Legislative Judiciary

The Three Arms of Central Government 1. The Executive is made up of the Prime Minister and his Ministers. They guide and give direction. The Cabinet is responsible to Parliament and cannot make laws without them. 2. The Legislature is made up of Parliament: Upper House (Senate who meet separately ) Lower House (House of Representatives). The Opposition is also involved in law-making. The legislature make laws to ensure peace, order and good governance. All laws must go from Lower House to Upper then be signed off by the President. 3. The Judiciary-is made up of courts and to ensure the law is enforced fairly.
Local Government • Local Government is responsible for the community. The Prime Minister cannot be everywhere and must delegate tasks to upkeep each community to: • Mayors • Councillors • Aldermen
