TAKE A MOMENT & THINK • What impacts might the Spanish Inquisition have on Spain? ? • How might it influence the Spanish Worldview?
IMPACT ON SPAIN • Expelling or killing the Jews & Muslims had a huge negative impact on Spain – They had formed a large part of the educated class – Most were financiers or businessmen • With educated moneymakers gone, Spain was not growing economically be the end of the 1400 s
SPANISH WORLDVIEW • The inquisition didn’t just impact Spain, but would also spread into the NEW WORLD with Spanish Exploration. • King Ferdinand Queen Isabella had believed as Catholic Monarchs they had the duty to convert as many people as possible to the Catholic faith – Columbus used this as a way to persuade the King and Queen to fund exploration • The new lands would have people to convert! • Missionaries would be brought on every journey
