MAIN OBJECTIVES • To increase professionalism and competence amongst Natural Scientists • To protect the community against incompetent practitioners • To gain international recognition for South African Natural Scientists • To ensure the highest quality of training in the Natural Sciences • To Represent ALL practitioners within the Natural Scientific Profession 15/09/2020 SA Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) 3

DISCIPLINARY MATTERS • One major complaint regarding alleged misconduct of a Professional Natural Scientist (Accused admitted guilt and received a fine and a suspended suspension from practice) • Escalating cost of future disciplinary cases remains a cause for concern 15/09/2020 SA Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) 6
EDUCATIONAL MATTERS The role of SACNASP in the Higher Education sector (Act 27 of 2003): • Advise institutions regarding the training of Natural Scientists (Deans of Sciences Forum established) • Admission qualifications under revision • Collaborate with HEQC with regard to accreditation of Educational Programmes at Universities (MOU) • Many local and foreign qualifications have been evaluated for registration purposes 15/09/2020 SA Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) 7
FINANCES (See attached audited statements) • Financial situation improved substantially over last two years • Mainly due to increased number of registrations • Increase in annual fees kept at 6% but it is still the lowest compared to other Councils • Reserve fund was established to make provision for legal costs 15/09/2020 SA Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) 8
