Confession and Absolution P: God, You love us and care for us. You forgive us and heal us. Because You are faithful we can bring our confession to You in the full confidence that You forgive sin.

Confession and Absolution C: We confess we have turned away from You and given in to the power of sin. We are sorry and come before You to repent and turn back to You. Forgive us for all sins known and unknown as well as things we do and fail to do. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, allow us to live for You and serve You through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

Confession and Absolution P: Jesus Christ was given to die for us and for His sake God forgives all our sins. We are saved by the grace of God and strengthened by the power of the Holy Spirit. Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Prayer of the Day P: God, we give You thanks and praise for the gift of Your only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Help us to understand His life, sufferings, death, resurrection, and ascension. We want to be those who continue the work of reconciliation that He handed to the disciples. We want to be part of Your plan in the restoration of all things in Jesus’ name. C: Amen

The First Reading Acts 10: 34 -48 34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. 36 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.

The First Reading Acts 10: 34 -48 37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

The First Reading Acts 10: 34 -48 39 “We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, 40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

The First Reading Acts 10: 34 -48 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name. ”

The First Reading Acts 10: 34 -48 44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.

The First Reading Acts 10: 34 -48 Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have. ” 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.

The Second Reading 1 John 5: 1 -8 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands.

The Second Reading 1 John 5: 1 -8 And his commands are not burdensome, 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

The Second Reading 1 John 5: 1 -8 6 This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

Holy Gospel John 15: 9 -17 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

CATECHISM The Third Article P: We learn from our First Reading today that the gift of the Holy Spirit was given to Gentiles as well as to Jews, which includes all the peoples of the world. Let us speak together the words of the Apostles’ Creed regarding the Third person of the Holy Trinity.

CATECHISM The Third Article C: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

CATECHISM The Third Article P: C: What does this mean? I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith.

CATECHISM The Third Article C: In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian Church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian Church He daily and richly forgives all my sins and the sins of all believers.

CATECHISM The Third Article C: On the Last Day He will raise me and all the dead, and give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ. This is most certainly true.

Prayer of the Church P: Make our joy full, O Lord, that our hearts may have no room for fear. Deliver us from our enemies and from those who would wrest the Kingdom from us. Make our joy full, O Lord, that we may learn the obedience of faith and be faithful in our various vocations and callings. Help us to live fully the new life imparted to us in our Baptism.

Prayer of the Church P: Make our joy full, O Lord, that we may be bold in the proclamation of Jesus Christ. Give us courage that by the faithful confession of the cross, many may be brought to redemption by the power of the Holy Spirit.
